New Year new you - get the job you want for 2016

So how do you get that ‘fresh start’?

2016 is set to be a good year for employment, with companies expanding and the private sector having confidence to recruit. If you’re looking for a new job, here’s a few things to consider:

  • Ask yourself why you want to change jobs – are the career prospects limited in your current position? Do you dislike a boss or manager? Are you after more money? Do you fancy a complete career change? The reasons can be varied and many, but once you’ve established why you want a new job, searching for it will be easier.
  • If you’re changing career path, what transferrable skills do you have? If you can demonstrate to a potential employer how you would fit in with their business, you stand a better chance of getting the job.
  • Are there plenty of jobs in your chosen career? If you’re looking at a limited market, you will need to make sure you stand out from the crowd when you’re applying for jobs.
  • Is your CV up to date? Looking for a new job is always a good time to review your CV and make any changes to reflect current skills and training.
