- Plan ahead and know public transport schedules or places to park before your first day.
- When you’re at work, try to always arrive at least 10 minutes early for everything. Give yourself plenty of travel time.
- Always consider appropriate clothing to do the job, especially if PPE is required. Make sure you check it out before starting.
- Employers want their employees to want to work there. Listen to instructions, training and feedback and approach your work with a positive attitude.
- Be willing to learn and always show respect for your colleagues and managers.
- Check out if food/snack and drinks are available beforehand or take a packed lunch, you’ll enjoy you day better with the right food and hydration.
- Switch your phone to silent during the working day; if you are on your phone, you’re not doing your work. Keep phone activity to break times.
- Make sure you are aware of any safety information or policies that directly affect how you work before starting.
- If you don’t understand something, ask a colleague or a supervisor; you are new and not supposed to know everything.
